IT DEPENDS

With all the tools, programs and Internet offers available, wouldn't it be better to just build your own website?

If you don't have too many requirements it might be sufficient for a personal site: building a website seems like child's play. For professional purposes, however, I do not recommend this solution. There is more to it than meets the eye.

LIMITS AND RESTRICTIONS

Options are often limited in order to get serious. You will probably be able to create a nice looking site but that is not the end of it, a web site is not just an advertisement and the visual part is only one piece of the whole story.

The technical performance of the cheaper offers is often too limited. The source code is closed, so you can't see if everything is working in your favor.

ARE YOU THE OWNER OF YOUR WEBSITE?

Many of these systems use proprietary software so you can't just quickly pack up and move the site, for whatever reason.

LIMITED SEO OPTIONS

The possibilities are limited to a few options. Search engines are not interested in your beautiful design but look at the text content and whether it is structured following the rules.

SOME STILL USING "FLASH" CODE

Some website builders still resort to the disused Flash™ technology. Search engines cannot interpret this code properly and have said goodbye to this technology.
