I WANT TO BE NUMBER ONE ON GOOGLE!
WHY NOT?
I PROMISE YOU THE MOON…OR NOT
Can you expect a new website to have an immediate surge of traffic? If you already have a well-known brand name, are a well-known organization or figure, probably yes but in all other cases the best strategy is still to build a good reputation, bring quality content, build a rapport with visitors and set up a proper link strategy. Some developers do use what are called "black hat" techniques. While these sometimes seemingly bring quick success, it must be kept in mind that search engines can penalize a website when certain techniques are recognized.
BEING FOUND AND NOTICED
It can be quite frustrating at first, when your website seems to be more of a needle in a haystack, so you will need to give the site a boost. This may also require a budget for a promotional campaign.
With the right approach and a little patience, you can be found well and your efforts are going to be rewarded. How so? Have you ever been to a market where two stalls sell the same thing but one attracts more customers? Why do you prefer that one vendor but not the other? Several factors are at play but just dwell on it for a moment.
THINK LIKE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE
Get under their skin, what do they want or seek? The more the information is found interesting or useful , the more often they will come back or spread information further. Put those gray brain cells to work for a while.
SO YOU'll NEED A STRATEGY
Traditional promotional tools can be useful to get the snowball rolling, such as: handing out business cards or flyers at places where your target audience can be present (trade shows for example), advertisements in newspapers or certain magazines, etc. For a website, quality, searched content is an important factor that helps in building a good reputation. When attention is paid to proper SEO, search engines will index the site higher. Modern methods such as social media like Facebook, Twitter and others can of course also lend a hand.
But beware: relying solely on for example Facebook can be disappointing because not you but Facebook always has the last word on what happens to your post and who gets to see it for example. On your own web site, however, you are in charge.
LARGE NUMBER OF DOMAIN NAMES
There are over 1.3 billion registered domain names worldwide, an incredible number since the first website (Worls Wide Web in august 1991) took off. Take a look and note the tremendous progress that has taken place since then.
So competition on the Internet is fierce when everyone wants to get on the first place of the first search engine page. However, each target audience and each place is different.
BE UNIQUE AND SPECIAL
The bottom line is that being original plays a big role but also that your product, service or information is sought after by your target audience.
